Mike's story
Arranging a Golfability competition at your club is an excellent way to make a difference to the disabled people living in the community. Mike Yeadon, a member of Pyrford Golf Club explains how Golfablity makes a difference to him:"For the last 20 years my son Neil has lived at Bells Piece, a residential care service run by Leonard Cheshire Disability. It’s only up the road in Farnham, so my wife and I are able to visit him regularly. It makes such a difference to our family that we do not have to provide the day-to-day care that Neil needs. Instead, he lives an independent life pursuing his own interests; he very much enjoys working in the plant nursery at Bell’s Piece where he and other disabled people grow fruit and vegetables. Neil also shares my love of golf – we play at Farnham Park par three course every Tuesday. He is very keen on sport and enjoys playing golf there.
I first took part in Golfability in 2008. It was a great way to introduce my friends at the golf club to the work of the charity. It’s so easy to convert a monthly Stableford into a Golfability Stableford – and by taking part you and your members will be helping disabled people in your community to live the independent life they deserve!"
